New Wet Market, Geylang

,

We were out of supplies, so we decided to go to a wet market. We heard about a new market at Geylang. We took a bus from Bedok to the wet market. The market was really a busy one and it is two storied. The first floor had vegetables fruits and meat. The second floor is for food courts and clothes. We had some breakfast from one of the food courts. Even tried one of the Malasian delicasies with prawns.
Then we did some shopping at the wet market . We also went to the nearby Joon Chat shopping complex. The stuff were very cheap there. The main shops in the complex were selling curtain items. There were some flower shops too. The flowers were artificial, but they were very beautiful. So we bought some flowers. After shopping and all we took a bus back home.

First Look At NTU

Today we decided to take a look at the Nanyang University Of Singapore. We took the bus87 from out stop to Bedok interchange And took the MRT till Pioneer and then took bus 179 to NTU. We got down infront of the Wee Kim Wee school of Communications. But the School of Electrical and Electronics was the adjacent building which is my future study place.

We walked around the campus and saw many departments . We also went to International Students Centre and the Student Services Centre where the Graduate Studies Office was situated. We then walked, looking for out registration centre, which we are supposed to report on July 28th for Matriculation

The campus is a huge one with all the amenities around. July 23rd to 30th is the convocation time of the graduates , so it was a little crowded at some placec. We then discovered a free shuttle bus around the campus to Pioneer MRT. So we got in one of the shuttle bus and reached Pioneer MRT.
Then we took the MRT back home. The journey took almost 1 hr and 20 mins. So its a long trip from Bedok to the NTU...Which unfortunately i 'll have to undergo for four days a week from august 10th onwards.

Transportation in Singapore

The main modes of transportation in Singapore is Mass Rapid Transit and Buses.
They are run by the goverment. The entire country rely on these. O f course there are taxis available , but the MRT and buses have equal comfort and are comparatively cheaper. The MRT runs throught out the country and is available from 6 am to 11 pm. The payment is done through tap cards which is an advantage because we dont need to carry around coins to travel. All you have to do is purchase an EZ link card and recharge it. Then that card can be used to travel in MRT and Buses. The card needs to be tapped in order to enter the MRT and bus .When leaving the MRT also we need to tap it. Then the amount for our journey is deducted from the EZ link card. There are concessions avaible for students and senior citizens.

Bedok Reservoir

The first day was a full rest day. We were really tired as we couldnt sleep in the flight because of the turbulence. However in the evening we decided to take a walk to the nearby Bedok reservoir.
The Bedok Reservoir is a large pond which is used by locals for fishing, surfing, kayaking...There is a jogging track around the reservoir for about 8 km and there were many joggers at the place. There is also a park adjacent to reservoir for kids.
The reservoir is closely guarded by the government to ensure its serenity. The reservoir is free from pollution and it allows a lot of animals to live in the reservoir. We took a small walk around the reservoir and we headed back to our home.

Journey Day

It was one of the most exciting days , because I was about to travel to singapore for my studies.
We were boarding from Bangalore airport , which is at Devanhalli about 45 kms from city centre.
We reached there at 9 pm and began the check in process. The Bangalore airport is really a huge one with both domestic and international departures from same terminal.

We then completed our check in and waited for out flight in Tiger Airways. The flight was really congested and there was a lot of turbulence in the sky.The reason for choosing Tiger Airways is because of its low cost.Since they are budget airline they dont provide any complimentary food. We have to buy the food on the flight. They even had a menu card. The price starts from 3$ for a small bottle of water. The travel time is 4 hrs 10 mins and the flight was delayed by 45 mins . We reached the singapore budget terminal by 6 30 am local time.We then moved to my sisters place at Bedok.

My Second Trip

This trip is actually my second trip to singapore . My first trip was on march last year. It was a really good trip. I stayed there at my sisters place . It was a 10 day trip and we almost covered most of the tourist spots like Jurong Bird Park, Singapore zoo, Sentosa. The best one was the visit to Singapore Science centre. It was like watching all the stuff you studied in science in real working model. I enjoyed most of the stuff about singapore. The travelling was done mainly by MRT and buses . It was not a packaged tour, so i got to know more about the places.

But I had a bitter experience too. It was with shopping. I am tech freak and love electronic goods. So I went to Sim Lim Square the electronic centre to buy a camera . I thought of buying a good camcorder for about 700 S$ (Sony).
I went to into the complex and and entered a camera shop at the ground floor. We were welcomed by the sales person, who seemed to be a nice guy and asked our needs in a pleasing manner. He began to show some models and he said the one we are looking for was out of stock and suggested new models with greater price.

By his good manners and his "ability to talk " he talked us trough to buy a High Definition camcorder (Sanyo)

The funny part is that I was Cheated by this freak. He sold me the stuff telling that it cost 2000$ and hell give free stuffs , we fell for that and bought it.
I searched the net and found that the camera costs not more than 600$ and we were shocked . The next day we went there asking why would he cheat tourists like us. He said he didn't cheat us and took his calculator and began typing.

Cost of camera 600$
cost of tripod 300$
cost of battery 200$
cost of memory card ....

I couldn t believe my eyes , the ones which he said was free, now has a price and he said we bought it together with camera.

Then I realised the truth

1. Not to fall for nice word and fancy free stuffs
2. Not to go to just one store to buy...rather, compare prices before you buy.
3. Bad things always comes with a good wrapping.

Apart from this bad experience with shopping ,we had a great time in Singapore. From then onwards I decided to be little more careful in trusting new people.
Hoping not to encounter guys like these this time.

Admission To NTU

It is really a luck to get into NTU, one of the reputed universities in Singapore for my Masters in Control and Automation. It is because of the fact that i did not write a GRE test or even an IELTS to get into NTU. My academic background helped me i guess. Anyway the course will start on August 10th and I am really excited to meet new people and culture.I ll be flying to singapore on July 17th from Bangalore by Tiger Airways . The rates are really cheap in Tiger airways. Even before joining the course , I met my new class mates and friends through Orkut community. Because of the community , there was no doubts in the process of VISA application and accomodation searches.

The new education system will be a little difficult to follow i guess. Its mostly consists of assignments (according to seniors). And also I am new to GPA and CGPA grading systems. But the class hours are limited to 12 hrs per week (full time) so I think there wont be a problem adjusting to new system..

I am really excited that i decided to start a blog to express my self. I dont know how long will I be able to continue my blog because am a little lazy with typing...
